Cleveland Mayor and Police Chief Comment as CPD First District Police join Protesters

“No justice no peace.” “George Floyd,” and “I can’t breathe.” 

Protestors shouted these powerful sentiments and the name of George Floyd as they made their way across Cleveland’s West Side during the late afternoon hours of Tuesday, June 2. 

Around 75 protestors initially gathered near the First District police station and reportedly moved toward Lakewood.

I-71 south and north ramps were closed to traffic near West 130th Street.

Community raises more than $7.6 million, grants approach $2.8 million in support of frontline nonprofit organizations in Greater Cleveland

CLEVELAND (April 17, 2020) – The Greater Cleveland COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund coalition announced today its fourth round of weekly grants to support the Greater Cleveland nonprofit community, which continues to face unprecedented challenges during the ongoing pandemic. In total, $492,713 was awarded to 12 organizations and groups serving Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties, bringing the overall grantmaking amount to nearly $2.8 million in the month since the Fund’s creation.

Mayor Jackson and Division of Police Introduce Community Engagement Officers to City Neighborhoods

Today, Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Chief Calvin D. Williams and Deputy Chief Wayne Drummond provided background on the Community Engagement Officer (CEO) initiative and introduced the 15 new CEOs.

This initiative further demonstrates the City’s commitment to creating a better quality of life for residents. Each of the city’s five police districts has three CEOs focused on grassroots relationship-building, based on the specific needs of each district.

“It’s really about community engagement and community policing in a way that connects police officers with individuals and community organizations and community groups to have a real feel for what’s going on on the street,” said Mayor Frank G.
