After more than 10 years, The Metro Urban News Student Journalism Program appears to be picking up speed faster than a Halloween pumpkin being rolled down a hill. Now, the program has found a home at Our Youth Our Future, a vital afterschool program with mini-college courses aimed at youth between the ages of 6-17.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Housed in the former Harriet Tubman Museum and Cultural Center, located at 9250 Miles Park, this program had children waiting anxiously to write, write, write. And write they do. They have even written and recorded their very own rap song entitled, \u201cAfter School Special\u201d, under the guidance of Alan McClendon. McClendon is one of many professionals who lend their time and talent to the students at the center.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, this gang of little rascals are putting pen to paper and the results have been astonishing. In a time where reading and writing seems to not interest our children- as their fingers rapidly noodle around on their various electronics games and devices-the kids in this program are in deep thought about their next article that they must create. Deep thought.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Metro Urban News Student Journalism Program also prepares the attendees for a career in radio broadcasting. During this summer, the program was set up at Cuyahoga Community College’s Metro Metro campus and the kids were delighted to have their show, \u201cThe HTA Wreckers Show\u201d go out over the air. Their parents, friends and members of Tri-C\u2019s staff were ecstatic as they listened to some of the shows that were produced by the summer camp crew. The kid produced programs were broadcast on Metro Urban News 1 Radio, a station that is guided under the same journalistic banner as the newspaper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Look for their upcoming articles in future editions of \u201cGET LIT\u2019 found all over the city. Also tune into Metro Urban Newes 1 Radio for outstanding family radio. The station is a community based station that believes in putting out vital, informative information in a fun and creative way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
